O Splatoon.
The Splatoon franchise is nothing like I've ever seen before. It feels so unreal, It doesn't resemble anything.
The team just decided to make a whole world with the most absurd concept-the player is evolved squid that is made of ink and painting the floor with ink is literally the main objective.
Not only that-just look at the trailers. They include not only gameplay and concept arts, but also so many design ideas and miscellaneous things. Even the 'gameplay' are presented in stylized way by using dynamic perspective and edit. It feels so...indie? Just look at this. and this. and this.
One aspect that captured me the most was music. It's... diverse, but that is not enough to describe the whole aesthetic. The story that they are made by species that are not humans...and use their own language.... Even putting aside the language, it certainly has something 'Splatoonic'. (Check Side Order for what I mean)
Some may say that early Splatoon was pretty dry with lack of content and the art only evolved after then. But seeing from the artbook and mystery files that were obviously made before release, they most certainly had what they wanted to make in their mind from the start.
I am only devastated for not being able to find right words for my feeling for Splatoon.
Anyways here's the list of songs I really REALLY like in the games. Beware as there are spoilers!
Splatoon
Calamari Inkantation
I can't mention this heavenly melody later.
Tentacular Circus
Splatoon 2
Rip Entry-Splatoon 2's main theme is Inkoming, but I like this better because it sounds more silly.
Seafoam Shanty-This was featured in a huge update trailer! Personally I think it was one of many peaks Splatoon reached. It gives the feeling of a new season, which was brought with many new features including new hairstyles, new song, and new mode called clam blitz. I don't play clam blitz but still!!!!
Broken Corral-The number of instruments of the band excites me.
Ever Further-I can still remember my gauge gwooping down in 00:16!!!!!!
I like the use of...unnamable brass instrument. Kinda reminds me of a Korean instrument. Also it's a trivial thing but I never caught that autobike-like sound in the track was Mr.Grizz's laugh.
Ebb & Flow-Along with Inkoming, this is one of the tracks that made it possible to differentiate Splatoon 2 from Splatoon. By doing so it created the nostalgia barrier, giving both of them their own flavor.
At first I didn't like this song because it was different, but time solved it and I love it now.
Acid Hues-Before I like Ebb & Flow, I preferred this song. This song has something Octo Canyon has-something bouncy. Probably hint of Marina. Transition between Pearl and Marina prevents listeners from being tired of any of them.
I remember listening to 30 min extended loop on computer lab, fiddling around on scratch.
Tentacular Circus-I KNOW I already mentioned this on Splatoon section but I'll explain this more here because I never played Wii U. This song makes Agent 4 so hero-like, grinding on ink rail with her dualies, stepping out in fast pace like the music tells her to.
Nasty Majesty-I had to stop playing Switch not long before this dropped, because I wanted to focus more on studying. But I continued following the news of Splatoon because it was almost only thing that I could enjoy.
Fly Octo Fly-The Friggin stage clear leightmotif is ruining me TT This really sounds like a farewell to the game, a final battle. Ebb & Flow at the end signifies the improvement of the treatment Off the Hook, especially Pearl got from the fandom since the announcement of the first Ebb & Flow. From odd and strange looking entities that are not familiar, friendly Squid Sisters, to a new friend who are very good people who could be as adventurous and charming as any other characters.
(Unimportant)Dad told me the leitmotif sounds like ACDC.
Into the Light-Off the Hook ate with this ending credit. It's even better then Fresh Start.
#11 above-
Splatoon 3
Ech0 0nslaught-I get the machine girl fandom. I like the extreme contrast between crazy part(?) and ascending part(?).
souv3nir-I like it for a similar reason to Ech0 0nslaught, but the ascending part on this track is way more dramatic and make me want to be sad about something tragic. But I failed to do so because Splatoon is so fun
Short Order-This is the rematch theme. It makes final boss much, much less stressening and more fun. It sounds like Pearl is teasing Smollusk for being a lil meanie. Little little man, little little man. Check it out, check it out!
Other things by the fandom that I really like!
What Percent of Splatoon 3 Players are Octolings?-I find it amusing that the uploader found use of math in what she is curious about. I doubt that no one except her has had the same question, but actually preparing the plan and putting time and effort in recording all those players, furthermore editting the whole process in an eye-catching way? They're the kind of person I yearn to be.
Glasses Freak Jr.-They make cool fan-themes of Splatoon. They found the recipe!
